Transtec to Present in Concrete Pavement Smoothness Webinar

Concrete pavement smoothness

The National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center) is hosting a 90-minute webinar titled “Guidelines for Building Smooth Concrete Pavements,” on Wednesday, November 13 at 11 am EST.

The webinar will present guidelines for best practices for concrete pavement construction, specifically as they relate to smoothness. It will also present current practices for concrete pavement smoothness specifications and highlight an IRI-based guide specification being produced by the CP Tech Center.

This webinar will help participants understand aspects of concrete pavement construction that affect smoothness and will highlight tools for helping ensure smoothness targets are achieved.

Presenters include David Merritt, Project Director at The Transtec Group, and Gary Fick, Project Manager at The Transtec Group. Peter Taylor from the CP Tech Center will be moderating, and Tom Yu from the Federal Highway Administration will provide an introduction.

Merritt has more than 21 years of experience related to pavement research and engineering. He has led numerous FHWA and state highway agency concrete pavement research and testing projects, including those related to real-time smoothness measurements, concrete pavement curling and warping, and precast concrete pavement.

Fick has been involved in the paving industry for 31 years. His current work is focused on real-time smoothness, concrete overlays, recycled concrete aggregates, support of design-build projects, and performance engineered mixtures.
