As part of a demonstration program through the Federal Highway Administration, Transtec worked with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) to install a high friction surfacing treatment (HFST) on the West-North ramp of the Marquette Interchange in downtown Milwaukee. The project demonstrated the benefit of using HFST to significantly enhance the friction of an existing pavement to help reduce crashes—this particular ramp has seen a dramatic reduction in wet-weather crashes after the HFST installation.

Transtec assisted with project site selection, HFST product and installer selection, and technical support during HFST installation. Transtec tested texture and friction and monitored the performance for the first three years after installation.
