The Transtec Group’s Director of Research Dr. George K. Chang is presenting in a TRB webinar focused on Intelligent Compaction (IC). Transtec implements more practical technologies, including IC, to the pavement industry than any other firm in the nation.
The webinar, “Application of Intelligent Compaction Technology for Compaction Quality Control of Pavement Layers,” will provide an overview of IC, including how it can be applied to soils, bases, and asphalt layers. It will take place on Thursday, July 20 at 2 pm ET.
IC uses high tech monitoring during asphalt and soils compaction to maximize compaction in the least possible time. Transtec helps agencies implement IC technology, and developed Veta with support from the FHWA and the TPF pooled fund study 5-(334). Veta is a public domain intelligent construction data management (ICDM) tool that standardizes, displays, analyzes, and reports data collected by several types of IC and paver-mounted thermal profiling technologies. Veta is required in FHWA, AASHTO, and more than 20 state DOT IC specifications.
Dr. Chang is a world expert on pavement smoothness and intelligent compaction. He has extensive experience in pavement engineering consulting, research, training, and pavement software development. He has been actively involved in many projects that relate to pavement surface characteristics–including friction, smoothness, texture, tire-pavement noise–materials structure design, and construction. Dr. Chang’s unique expertise is in system/model integration, data collection and analysis, and asset management. He has developed many pavement engineering software applications that have been used as standards around the US and the world. He has also developed a one-stop shop website for IC (www.IntelligentCompaction.com) and co-founded the International Intelligent Construction Technologies Group (IICTG) association (www.IICTG.org).
